Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet area situated in The West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" place. This West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is a vast part that stretches from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel's birthplace has been frequently referenced, however her brief stay did not last long. Brugel was raised on Courtice close to Oshawa located in Ontario. She wanted to become a professional dancer but due to a rapid growth spurt she outgrew the dance partners she had. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed that in heels she was 6 foot 1 inches tall. Once I surpassed all my male partners, I stopped. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. In the case of Brugel it was the guidance by her drama instructor at her high school which pushed her to take the step she required. Her teacher invited her to try out for roles in the school's production. She was the teacher who suggested that she take on a part in the annual school production. This led to her being awarded a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts at York University. In the past 20 years, Brugel's work has been seen on the large and small screen. The most notable was her recognition when she landed her role as Rita on the award-winning TV show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor on the show in Season 1 which was viewed only at times.
